Flensburg/Dortmund/Hanover, Germany - 10 March 2005
On the booming SMS and MMS market more and more network operators are searching for complementing applications in this product environment. After the receiving and sending of SMS messages used to be restricted to wireless network operators, an increasing number of fixed line operators now goes for SMS services, too.
End devices for the creation and sending of short messages in the fixed line area have become very rare. However, it is always possible to receive SMS messages in the fixed net, provided that a text-to-speech (TTS) application is available. SMS messages received in the fixed line will be read out to the recipient.
This service is extended by a direct call back function that can be activated from the fixed line. For both the wireless and the fixed network operator this could mean a competitive advantage over other SMS providers. This function is enabled by the „SMS Call Back“ product by MR.NET.
And this is how this service works: A mobile subscriber sends an SMS to a conventional telephone number. This message is read out to the recipient in the fixed line. Afterwards, the recipient receives the possibility to call the sender back by activating the call back feature.
This MR.NET application does not only generate additional traffic from the fixed line but also improves the operator´s customer service. Furthermore, it is the basis for many new, lucrative SMS services that can be offered by mobile network operators and service providers.
The existing MATERNA platform manages the despatch of SMS messages, inclusively text-to-speech conversion. The extended features required for the call back service, that is, in particular, the connection control, are provided by other applications developed by MR.NET.
