Dortmund, 17 February 2004
At GSM World Congress in Cannes, the Dortmund based company MATERNA Information & Communications is presenting the latest generation of their Anny Way MMS Centre. This very powerful network element allows for the sending and receiving of MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) via fixed-line and wireless network, at the same time. With this further development, MATERNA takes the growing convergence of mobile communications and fixed-line into account.
With appropriate devices available, MMS for the fixed-line will be launched this year, too. At the same time, there will be an increased demand for suitable value added services. In future, fixed-line revenues will mainly be generated through multimedia data services, in addition to revenues from established speech services. MMS allows for additional visual communications, through the possibility to send and receive pictures or photos
The Anny Way MMS Centre can be used separately for the fixed net or in the area of mobile communications but is also particularly suitable for the combination of both networks. The MMS dispatch from the fixed-line into the wireless network, and vice versa, will be carried out as efficiently as the dispatch within the same network. Incoming messages from other sources, such as e-mails or information services, can comfortably be diverted to the mobile device or, alternatively, to the fixed-line phone, as required.
This enables network operators with both licenses, for the fixed-line and mobile communications, to realise their service by means of a standardised platform – including lower integration costs and a standard license.
With the introduction of the MMS Push accerelator in version 2.0 of the Anny Way MMS-Center MATERNA also solves an emerging problem for operators concerning throughput of news services and similar VAS applications. The new feature allows a high speed multicast transmission without blowing up the complete MMSC infrastructure and license model.
