MATERNA successfully operates M2M gateway in Germany

Mobile communication has many faces and is therefore a special challenge. This is particularly true when classic corporate processes are to be optimised by means of wireless technology. Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M) help companies to integrate different machines into their internal network, thus enabling remote access and central control. For this, MATERNA, as a solution provider for M2M communications, operates the necessary M2M gateway in Germany.
M2M communications enables easy monitoring, control and maintenance of remote machines, equipment, automats and other gadgets. It can be used, for example, for error notification with self-service automats, installation of machines or meter reading. The reduction of costs and increase in productivity achieved through M2M communications can easily be calculated, especially for service related processes. Here, experts estimate the cost saving potential at about 20 per cent.
MATERNA has already placed itself successfully in the M2M market as a telecommunications specialist offering a comprehensive range of necessary integration and application services. The company has already developed check-in installations to be jointly used by several airlines as well as navigation support for inland and offshore navigation.
MATERNA operates the sophisticated M2M Gateway in Germany. The M2M Gateway secures the connection between mobile communications via GPRS, HSCSD, CSD plus SMS and the customer´s IP network. At the same time, it guarantees the optimisation of data transmission, authentication and access control, amongst other things.
For the development of adequate solutions it is inevitable that network operators, infrastructure suppliers, value adding distributors, service providers and application developers work closely together. Thus, the gateway service provider and system integrator MATERNA joined the M2M Community which pursues the aim to facilitate the installation of M2M solutions for the customer. Besides MATERNA, current participants in this initiative are the companies DEGEN, E-Plus, Fraunhofer FOKUS, KOMSA, Nokia, Atos Origin and T-Mobile.
