Germany’s first real Mobile Virtual Network Enabler begins its business

vistream GmbH took on the job of a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE), using the wireless network of their contract partner E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG, providing end users with their mobile services and commercialising it over so-called branded retailers.
vistream, a daughter of the Dortmund-based telecommunications specialist MATERNA Information & Communications GmbH, offers innovative GSM and UMTS solutions, as well as value added services to renowned customers in different industries. vistream is the first company on the German telecommunications market to act as a real MVNE and, thus, taking on the tasks of a mobile network operator.
vistream, an innovator of telecommunications products, supports companies that want to establish their position as virtual network operators on the market. Those “branded retailers“, who want to enter the lucrative wireless business, on the basis of their pre-existing customer contacts, will be among their partners. For the first time they have the chance to establish themselves as cross sellers in the market, and to complete their product range with mobile services, e.g. for customer loyalty enhancing programs, prize campaigns, quizzes, product information, etc.
Furthermore, vistream enables media companies, Internet service providers and cable network operators to extend their communications with a mobile component. Mobile TV magazines, interactive TV shows and SMS/MMS chat are only some examples for additional services.
The new company relies on its own GSM core network and servers also offering individual customers models. This also includes, besides tariff development and various billing modules, a wide range of value added services on the basis of SMS, MMS and speech solutions. All core elements, such as MSC, SMSC and MMSC, WAP Gateway or billing tools, belong to the vistream environment. vistream as the first MVNE will offer independent solutions in the segment “postpaid and prepaid”. The German wireless network operator E-Plus will supply vistream with voice minutes, signaling capacities, e.g. for SMS, and GPRS/UMTS data volumes.
