Available on all seven seas - mobile telephone comfort for passengers and crew alike.

With shipGSM we offer shipping companies a proven solution for mobile speech and data services as a supplement to the traditional telecommunications infrastructure with no extra investment involved, although attractive dividends are available. The separate on-board GSM network enables the passengers and crew to phone from the ship as usual, using their mobile end devices. They remain reachable via their normal telephone number and can also make phone calls. All cellular functions such as SMS, address book and agenda also remain available with no restrictions whatsoever. Billing is made via the normal network operator as per contract.

The principle is simple: the cellular phone solution consists of components which are installed on the ship and central elements which MATERNA provides its customers with as managed services. The ship has its own cellular phone network which is tuned exactly to the on-board requirements: comfortable coverage for all passengers is guaranteed, using topographically arranged BTS (Basic Transceiver Stations). The existing on-board IP and satellite connection is used here. International roaming agreements ensure the smooth transition between the respective local GSM network and the ship's network. As the shipGSM solution is based on the worldwide GSMM standard and IP technology, all prerequisites for secure communication are provided for. The use of the satellite connection takes the separation of the communication data from other data flows into account, thus guaranteeing a high degree of safety.
